I heard Foreflight is a VFR focused competitor. I would love to see more alternatives because I think Navigraph is too expensive..

You can easily find AIRAC updates in some sites. Simplaza/ruracker e.t.c.

Also depending on which part of the world you fly, there are alternatives for maps.

Not always the greatest format of charts (seems it really just links to all the "free" AIP providers around the world), but it's free ;)
